Friday Night Lights, or “FNL”, was started in the 2005-2006 academic year to invigorate Jewish life in Nassau and Suffolk counties. The goal was simple, the mission extremely difficult. Bring enthusiasm and excitement back to communities as a whole and the teenage population in particular for the observance and participation in Shabbas. By partnering with three enthusiastic, adventurous and supportive communities, NCSY committed to send advisors to Plainview, Roslyn & North Bellmore for one shabbos each month. NCSY's FNL program serves as a constant mainstay in these communities, assisting in providing ruach, support and inspiration. The FNL team, consisting of 8 “all-star” advisors, bring shabbos food, religious knowledge and enthusiasm, packaged in fun to local teenagers, while providing support to the local community’s synagogues and patrons. Through monthly visits to our partner communities, NCSY advisors are afforded the opportunity to build genuine and concrete relationships and connections with teens and adults throughout the community. These advisors showcase different programs and seminars intended to inspire, engage, and enlighten these communities thirsting for further Jewish connections and Jewish life.
